Why Christian tend to like Judas |
Looking to wind down my day, I wandered down to the gym and into the steam room. It was there that it came to me. Three of those Buddha heads would look amazing sitting in a row on the window ledge. They were exactly what I needed to accessorize the steam room! I raced back to the store the next day, but there was only one left. How could that be? I was sure the design gods wanted me to have them and I absolutely needed three, one in each colour. I panicked and called for reinforcements. My mom and my sister, who live in opposite cities, rose to the challenge. My sister found a green one and my mom found a white. Now I have white, green and blue Buddhas sitting on the window sill of the steam room and feel very blessed. Thanks Mom, Thanks sis. What‘s the moral of the story? Always be ready to buy. You just never know when and where you‘ll discover an amazing piece for your home. I always carry a Ziploc bag in my purse filled with paint chips and fabric cuttings so I can confirm colours anywhere, anytime. On my phone, I have photos of the floor plan and when enlarged I can even read the room dimensions and window measurements (I love my iphone). Anytime, anywhere! The other moral to this happy tale is that if a piece haunts you, go get it. It‘s meant for you. Sometimes you need to act at a moment‘s notice and won‘t have the luxury of being able to drive back to the store. I‘ve been on a location shoot for Let‘s Shop or vacation and suddenly noticed something fabulous and had to make a spilt second buying decision about the purchase. If you are carrying your information with you, it will certainly help with the decision-making process. The hotel concierge will be most helpful locating international shippers. If it moves you, just go for it! DESIGN NOTES Spring is almost here – yahoo! Time to welcome in spring by bringing a little of our outdoors in. Lay a fabulous tree branch along the top of a side board or table, add a solarium, open the drapes and allow that glorious sunlight to shine in. Fill a beautiful bowl with rocks, crystals or seashells, and harness the outdoors indoors. These natural treasures will remind you to take life day by day and to simply slow down, take a few deep breathes and enjoy the beauty. DESIGNER SECRETS Sticky price tags and bar code labels on things drive me nuts and so does peeling them off. If I‘m setting up a home or a display house and need to remove a lot of stickers quickly, I use olive oil. A little olive oil rubbed onto the stickers allows you to remove it effortlessly. Rinse the oil off with a little hot water and a soft cloth and display proudly. Cheryll Gillespie is a syndicated home advice columnist and Kelowna resident. Her column appears every Friday in eVent!
